I think it needs more punctuation than just an apostrophe. Otherwise it's just wrong.

I could find a version that said hypocrites, but then another one that said "over-scrupulous". And it occurred to me that over-scrupulous is hyper- rather than hypo- critical. But that is a saying I'd never heard of, so it was definitely detective work!
