Does anyone know if the meal replacement diets have sugar in the packets? Does Lipotrim, for instance, contain any sugar in those choc, vanilla, and strawberry shakes or do they sweeten them with artificial sweeteners? Pandora, just had a google to try and find out, but the Lipotrim website does not seem to list the ingredients. I would say that any sugar; refined or artificial (even honey) has the same effects so it's probably best to keep them to a minimum. Thanks, Tab. I am guessing not too much sugar in it, or else my palate would not be so sharply sugar sensitive when I re-feed. But I don't trust artificial sweeteners either , as aspartame used to give me eye twitches, every single time I used a packet. Weird.

I never touch aspartame. Too many health risks. I use splenda, or stevia, or erythritol or xylitol. Or good old-fashioned Hermesetas! Agave syrup is great too but has more calories than the others xx

Well done tab - you are so right about the regret! This week I have had three supermarket cookies (foolishly bought the dough to cook 8 with he children) 3 after dinner magnums and a portion of apple crumble.
This was on Sunday and Wednesday so two clear days in the middle (remembers 10 or so smarties on Tues evening) or may be not.
Need to re motivate and go for it again. There is no need......

I am dabbling with exante and have read the ingredients and nutrition carefully. The products vary but lots of them have sugar at around 7% and lots of them use maltodextrin rather than sucrose which breaks down into glucose (and not fructose). They use sucralose as a sweetener. I don't think they products are helping me with my sugar quitting mission (I am currently eating a chocolate pudding which is 13% sugar with maltodextrin listed in the ingredients before sugar) but a lot of them are not too bad for it.

Very interested in alternative flours! I think I am a bit intolerant to wheat and lactose but not enough to automatically turn me off. One of my friends is recently diagnosed coeliac and i enjoy her food and feel well on it, have discovered some nice cake recipes too from hosting her! Bought the davina sugar free cook book there are some nice recipes in that.

Interesting to read through this. I'm trying to detox from sugar and processed carbs. I'm a big time cr@p consumer these days.

Argh - had a disastrous fortnight. Was getting back on it and came home to homemade banana cake yesterday. Today has been ok so day 2 tomorrow Nettee, don't lose the plot, it's just a blip (you're only human and banana loaf is blooming lovely). I've come a long way since deciding to limit sugar but I'm under no illusions that it will be 'perfect'. Indeed today I shared a dessert with a friend (instead of having one of my own); the first dessert I've had for a month, and I'm intending to build in eating the odd sugary thing once a week if I want. The worst thing I could do is say "you can't eat that any more" because I would immediately want it. I don't count today's eating sugary stuff as a failure or reason to be unhappy, and you don't need to either. Just think of what you have already achieved, Nettee.

Interesting to read through this. I'm trying to detox from sugar and processed carbs. I'm a big time cr@p consumer these days. If you've been able to watch Fed Up on Netflix, there's another couple of youtube videos that you might find interesting. Here's the links below:- Robert Lustig's TED talk, about half an hour: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmC4Rm5cpOIRobert Lustig: a more in-depth talk about sugar and the political angle(1hr:30min): www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oMI've just bought a book on my kindle by Robert Lustig, called "Fat Chance, the hidden truth about sugar, obesity and disease". In a nutshell it explains the history of food (in USA) and that we cannot expect to get help from our governments to fight the very strong food lobbies who want to keep the status quo (despite their acknowledging that obesity could be reduced by challeging the food companies); the governments have no stomach (pun intended) to fight these powerful organisations. Instead we have accept that it starts with us; we have to do it ourselves. A mighty challenge in the face of enormous temptations from the vast majority of foods (80%) containing sugars in all their derivations that are available everywhere. Robert sums it up by advising that, as much as possible, we should try to eat and cook with REAL FOOD in its natural state. Keep it simple.

The lustig lectures are fascinating it really shows how sugar consumption has increased and how it's been allowed to happen. The UK has followed USA so it's relevant here as well.
I'm pleased you getting back on track. I've fallen off wagon and returned to sugar. Eeeek
But after thinking about it again I know sugar is bad for me and need to quit the habit.
I'm not a smoker but wondered if quiting cigarettes is harder or easier than sugar detox!
Good luck to us all

Hello again, I am back on the wagon since last Thursday. I did fall of in a major way on Sunday evening but it is now Wednesday so nearly a week in with only one wobble. I do think I have been getting the headaches this time and the hunger that isn't really hunger but just a need to eat constantly although I haven't really been specifically craving sugar.
It is all getting a bit easier again and I hope that I will be able to stick at it a bit longer now that I am back from trips over the summer mostly. Just one overnight with the inlaws over the bank holiday to go before the children are back to school and everything is as normal as it gets!
It is a case of not making exceptions all the time because there is always another hurdle and once I start it is so hard to give it up again.
good luck to everyone else
